"I wanted better for my kids and me."

I am a 32 year old single mother, with a 9 year old daughter and a 2 year old son.  I graduated from high school and completed an Associate’s degree from a community college.  Unfortunately, throughout high school and college I struggled with depression and codependency issues that stem from childhood trauma. I began hanging around with the wrong crowds and soon turned to cocaine.

The first time I did cocaine was 15 years old. I had no idea this would lead to 17 years of involvement with drugs.

In 2017, I unfortunately married a man who was both mentally and physically abusive and also addicted to meth. I used cocaine heavily and stopped cold turkey when I found out I was 7 months pregnant with my son.

I decided to leave this abusive relationship as well and sought refuge at a domestic violence shelter. I knew that I needed help and had finally reached the point where I wanted better for my kids and me.

I am so grateful I found Sheffield Place. Since I moved in I have not used any drugs and I am currently 163 days sober. Sheffield Place provides the structure that l’d never had and a way out of the life I was leading.

The program at Sheffield Place is challenging, but definitely worth it. I have learned how to live in recovery, which has gotten me one step closer to living my best life with my children, which I couldn’t have done it without Sheffield Place.
