I came to Sheffield Place last October. I had been at Sheffield Place for two weeks in the previous year, but wasn’t ready to make the all-out commitment to sobriety and the difficult journey to self-sufficiency.
Unfortunately, I started using drugs at 15. I have been in and out of prison and accumulated five felony charges for drug-related crimes. I have also been in and out of abusive relationships. My last abusive partner nearly killed me. I have six children from newborn to 8. They are currently in state custody, and I am working to get them back.
What makes this stay at Sheffield Place for me is that I am ready to do whatever it takes to stay in recovery and have my family with me.
I have a job and am six months sober. When I was here the first time, I saw families reunited and lives changed. I just didn’t think I could do it or that I deserved it. Now I do.
